Hockey Canada announced on Tuesday afternoon that St. Catharines, Ontario, will host the 2016 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championships. It will be the first time Canada has hosted the event since the inaugural tournament was held in Calgary, Alberta, in 2008.
All of the tournament’s 22 games will be played at the Meridian Centre some time in January 2016, with specific dates and other details to be released at a later time.
“The IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship is quickly becoming one of the must-see events on the women’s hockey calendar, and we’re thrilled to take the world championship to St. Catharines in 2016,” said Tom Renney, president and CEO of Hockey Canada. “With a first-rate new facility, an eager host committee and passionate hockey fans, it’s going to be a tournament to remember for anyone lucky enough to be a part of it.”
